Rachael Hopkins Body Aid
Rachael Hopkins
Director and Principal Physiotherapist 

Rachael graduated with a Bachelor of Physiotherapy from Otago University in 1994.  After working in both New Zealand and the United Kingdom, Rachael returned to Otago University and completed a post graduate diploma in Manipulative Physiotherapy in 1998.  Rachael then went on to work with Otago Rugby for 3 years, whilst also working for the School of Physiotherapy as a Clinical Tutor at the University of Otago.

Rachael has worked in private practice for the last twenty years and has been the Physiotherapy Owner of Body Aid Clinic in Whakatane since 2005.

Rachael has a real passion for helping her clients achieve their ultimate function and goals. Rachael uses exercise, manual therapy (hands-on treatment), postural correction and core stability frequently with her clients, and she is experienced with assessing and treating all types of musculoskeletal disorders and pain conditions.  Rachael has greatly benefited from the opportunity of working in a clinic with health professionals, who are also available to assess and treat clients in their own fields of expertise. Rachael describes this multi-disciplinary approach: 'Being able to work together as an on-site team provides a unique and holistic approach to client management for pain and injury.'

Antoine Collombet Body Aid

Principal Osteopath

Antoine was born and raised in Nantes, France.  He attended the European School of Osteopathy in Maidstone, Kent, and completed a Bachelor of Science in Osteopathy in 2001.  After moving to New Zealand in 2001, he completed a Post Graduate Diploma in Anatomy at the Medical School in Otago University in 2003. Antoine has been part owner of Body Aid Clinic since the clinic started in 2005.

 

Antoine enjoys the diversity of Osteopathy, treating many different types of injuries and problems, over all parts of the body and over a range of all ages – including babies to the elderly.  Antoine uses a broad range of techniques including manipulation, cranial osteopathy and visceral techniques.

 

Outside of Osteopathy, Antoine is married and has three school aged children.  Antoine is a keen surfer, cyclist and mountain biker, and loves the outdoors and all that the Eastern Bay of Plenty has to offer.

Alexander Redfern
Physiotherapist

Alex brings a wealth of knowledge and enthusiasm to Body Aid Clinic. Since qualifying from the University of Central Lancashire in the United Kingdom in 2012, Alex has worked in the National Health Service, private practice and within sports teams both in the UK and New Zealand.


Alex aims to provide high quality care utilising detailed assessment techniques, effective hands-on treatments, Acupuncture, Electrotherapy and a variety of cutting-edge techniques. Alex specialises in chronic and acute neck and back pain, sports injuries and post-surgical rehabilitation.


Clients can expect a bespoke treatment plan aimed at restoring their function, reducing pain and getting them back to activity, whether that includes work, surfing, doing jobs around the garden, playing with the kids or returning to high level sport.


Alex has completed post graduate training alongside national sports team physiotherapists and has extensive knowledge in elite level rehabilitation and performance. Treatment is tailored to improve strength and resilience whilst ensuring optimal biomechanics and neurological co-ordination, which reduces the risk of re-injury and improves performance.

Rebecca Avery Body Aid
Rebecca Avery (Pedersen)
Physiotherapist

Rebecca graduated from Otago University in 2010 with a Bachelor of Physiotherapy (Credit). She spent the 2011-13 cycling seasons in Europe working for the New Zealand national BMX and Road Cycling squads. For six years Rebecca ran her own clinic in Kawerau – ‘Tarawera Physiotherapy’ and has recently come back to Body Aid Clinic. 


Rebecca is a hands-on clinician. She uses a combination of manual therapy and exercise-based rehabilitation to help her clients regain their full function. She has a special interest in sports injuries, particularly to do with overuse or ergonomics.  She strives to personalise treatment plans to fit in with your lifestyle, making rehabilitation achievable and fun.

Outside of work, Rebecca is married with a young daughter. She loves a variety of sports and will spend as much time in the water as possible.

Joanne Kitchen
Physiotherapist

Jo has been the owner-operator of 2 large physiotherapy clinics on Auckland's North Shore and has moved back to Matata for a balanced lifestyle.

She is a highly experienced and respected Sports Physiotherapist in NZ. Her long-term involvement with the Silver Ferns Netball team and the NZ Women’s Hockey Blacksticks has equipped her with valuable tools to get you back on track.

She has a passion for working with the local community netball and sharing knowledge. Jo has attended Olympic and Commonwealth games and holds Post-Graduate qualifications in both Spinal Manipulation and Sports Medicine.

She is a keen cyclist, and gardener and fosters animals for the SPCA in her spare time.

Ayesha Garvey
Physiotherapist

Ayesha graduated with a Bachelor of Physiotherapy (Honours) from Cardiff University in 2019.

She is an attentive physiotherapist, who is dedicated to completing thorough assessments to get to the root cause of your needs. She gained experience working in the National Health System in the UK and focussed on Musculoskeletal Physiotherapy.  She has supported a variety of sports teams at National and International events in the UK, including the Welsh Touch Rugby and Irish Surf teams. She uses a holistic approach, utilising a wide variety of evidence-based treatments, including manual therapy techniques, exercise, and Pilates prescription, to create individualised care for specific needs, lifestyle and goals.

Ayesha is happiest when in or near the sea with her family. She has represented Ireland, competing in numerous European and World Surfing Championships, giving her a unique understanding of the importance of injury prevention and optimal performance in the sporting arena.

Kristy Rickard
Office Administrator

Kristy is originally from Cornwall in the UK. Kristy moved to Auckland in 2009, and then to the beautiful Bay of Plenty in 2017. She is married with 3 children and loves working in the community and supporting people.

Lucy Smith
Office Administrator

Born and raised in Aylesbury, England, Lucy met her NZ husband in the UK. In 1996, after travelling, they decided to move permanently to NZ. With three adult children and having recently sold their business, Lucy is now enjoying the change of scenery, working with the friendly team at Body Aid. A big lover of the outdoors, Lucy likes to spend time being as active as possible.

Keryn Probert
Office Administrator

Keryn returned to Whakatane, the town she was born and raised, in 2004 following a seven year stint living in the UK with her husband and two boys. Keryn really appreciates working with such a friendly team and enjoys meeting clients. Out of work, Keryn loves spending time with family and
exploring new parts of the world.
